The hardcover book, Formen des Gegenständlichen in der Gegenwartskunst (Forms of the Figurative in Contemporary Art), is the result of an extensive collaboration between the Bakerhouse Gallery and the University of Graz.

This beautifully crafted 220-page volume showcases biographical insights and stunning visuals from artists represented by the Bakerhouse Gallery, including Feromontana, Dagmar Beyer, Lewis Blake, Patrizia Casagranda, Carola Deutsch, Jörg Döring, Patrick Hughes, Josef Kirchbaumer, Tamara Kolb, Tom Lohner, Marion Rauter, and Florian Satzinger.

The Project Behind the Book

This book is more than just a collection of artworks; it is the culmination of an ambitious academic project spearheaded by Eva Klein at the Karl-Franzens-Universität, under the department of Art History of Styria. The project, which began on July 1, 2021, involved students engaging in research, artist interviews, and art historical analysis as part of the course “Modern and Contemporary Art.”

Through this initiative, students were given the unique opportunity to work closely with artists, including Feromontana, conducting interviews and analyzing their work within its cultural and historical context. This collaborative process offered students real-world experience in research, writing, and publishing art historical texts.
